The initial ask was for pulpy spy movie compositions, leaning into the dirty harry aesthetic; however, despite trying a couple of those on for size, once we happened on the centered tentacle gun tornado, no one wanted to go back.
The brief also specifically asked for the first movie in the Blasto franchise, hence the Illium cityscape and a regretful lack of Detective Bubin. Whom I love very much and would revisit in a heartbeat.
You may also notice color similarity to my Boba Fett poster, which ended up being a direct palette reference after going through a number of other options.
I tried including some notable handguns from the trilogy, along with painstaking labor in wrapping Blasto’s tentacles around the handles and over their respective triggers. Proud of that touch. He’s always toting the guns all willy-nilly in the comics and at the movie set. I, however, wanted to imbue with him due professionalism befitting a Spectre Ultra Elite 7000. It is this type of attention to detail that sets me apart in the global Blasto art hysteria currently gripping the internet.

I unknowingly covered up my skyscraper-hopping Mako easter egg with a flat white fume quite late in the process and didn’t really notice until weeks after final approval. Bit sad about that.

I like tumblr because it understands that just because I consent to sound for one video, doesn’t mean I consent to sound for every video.
